1. Where can I find eBooks and eAudiobooks?

To use eBooks and eAudiobook, visit the Capital Area Digital Media Online web site.

Click login. Select Cumberland County Library System and enter your library barcode number.

2. Why aren't there many titles in the collection?

Unfortunately, our budget for the OverDrive service is small and only allows for a few new titles to be added each month. Also, publishers limit the content available to libraries. Learn more about this on our web site.

3. Everything I want to read/listen to is checked out. What can I do?

You can use the hold system to reserve titles that interest you. The system will email you when the title is returned. Please be patient. Due to limited budgets, our waiting lists can be long.

4. Can I return a title early?

When users download a title, they can select a 7 or 14 day checkout period.

Depending on how you access eBooks and eAudiobooks, there may be an early return feature on your device. For example: Kindle books can be returned through your Amazon account early. Books checked out using an OverDrive app can be returned early. And ePUB book titles checked out using Adobe Digital Editions software can be returned early.

5. Why can't I check out more titles?

To make the service available to as many people as possible, we've limited users to just a few titles each.

Also, you may want to limit the number of items you have checked out.

6. For eAudiobooks, should I use WMA or mp3 format?

The format will depend on your device. Please consult the Device Resource Center at OverDrive.

7. I want a book now, but I don't have a library card. Can I get a card online?

If you live in Cumberland County, you can get a temporary card online. You will not be able to check out eBooks or eAudiobooks with your temporary card. After you visit the library and activate your permanent card, you will have full access to digital downloads.

8. Can I submit a purchase suggestion for the collection?

If you want a specific title or just want to let us know that you’d like to see more items in a particular subject area, use the suggestion box.

When you submit the form, your suggestions will be reviewed and added to our possible purchase list. We try to fill requests if the titles are available from our provider in the desired formats and as our budget allows.

9. Why is a title I put on my Wish List no longer available?

Publishers control the access we have to purchased titles. Sometimes they remove access and those titles are deleted from our system.

10. Who pays for this service?

The downloadable eBook and eAudiobook service is funded by a state appropriation to the Capital Area Library District (Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties).
