Honeybees are an important creature living among us. This program is designed for children to help them understand the role this tiny, but fascinating insect plays in providing food to our table and in preserving our environment. In addition, explaining the cooperative nature of thousands of individual insects working together for the betterment of the whole colony; we can parallel and encourage some basic, preferred human kindness activities. 

Tiffany Ayres spent over 25 years in the veterinary industry in the positions of Hospital Administrator, Adjunct Instructor, Regional Operations Manager, and Zoetis Animal Health Management Consultant (Veterinary branch of Pfizer).  As she enhanced her training skills she taught and presented around the county for Fred Pryor National Seminars. In 2023, she established Keys to Bees, Inc. and achieved her Masters in Beekeeping from Cornell University.  Today, she continues to train through the lens of the honeybee to a variety of participants.  Most recently receiving a grant through the USDA SARE to establish a virtual platform for newer beekeepers to be successful.  Her goal is to spread the word of the incredible life of pollinators, specifically the honeybee, and take steps to improve our co-existence striving towards environmental sustainability one step at a time.

Take a deep dive into the work and history of West Shore Wildlife Center. Learn about some of our past patients and their miraculous stories of recovery and return to the wild. Find ways to become more involved in our mission to inspire coexistence between humans and wildlife.  

Recommended for mixed or older age groups. No registration required. 

6 pm, Community Room

Get ready to flutter into fun as we dive into the magical world of the Monarch Butterfly! Join Heather Mulhollan from Fairhaven Healing for a lively, interactive presentation where you’ll learn all about the Monarch Butterfly and get up close and personal with real Monarch caterpillars and chrysalises! Every child will get to decorate their very own planter and take home a Milkweed plant (the essential host plant for the Monarchs) empowering them to support butterfly conservation right at home. 

Limited to 30 children. Registration required. Please register participating children only for this program. Registration links will be posted one month prior to an event. You may also create a free Eventbrite account and follow Fredricksen Library. Eventbrite will inform you when Fredricksen Library opens registration for an event. This event is SOLD OUT.

10:30 AM in the Community Room 

Reptiles are amazing artists! Each species has its own colorful way to survive, to defend territory, and to attract a mate. Can you dance like a lizard? Can you sing like an alligator? Can you camouflage your colors like a box turtle, or boast your bright colors to advertise venom, like a coral snake? You'll learn all this, and more, as you meet Jesse Rothacker and his rescued reptiles, in the "Animal Art Forms" interactive show!

Specially trained dogs from K-PETs will be at the library to listen to children read aloud. This program is helpful to children who may be shy or reluctant to read aloud and will encourage them to practice reading independently. For budding readers, ages 6 - 12. Registration required.

Join us for a night of creativity and cinema. Kid's Paint Night will be followed by a drop in family movie. Kids are invited to participate in a movie-based guided painting before the family film starts. Registration required. Films will be rated G or PG.

June 27- Wild Robot

Bring your favorite doll to our American Girl camp out. We will have activities and snacks with fellow American Girl fans. Recommended ages 8 - 12. This is a walk-in event, no registration required.

6:30 pm in the Community Room
Volunteers from the Harrisburg/West Shore Chess Club will be on hand to assist young chess players and match up competitors. Join us and have fun! Participants are asked to bring a chess set if possible, but not required. No registration required. Ages 5 - 13.
