Joining us from Hendrix College, Dr. Deborah Skok (PhD University of Chicago) will illuminate the life of Jane M. Hoey, one of the most powerful women in the federal government in her talk, "Jane Hoey and Mother’s Aid during the Great Depression."
A pioneer in professionalizing the field of social work, Ms. Hoey was brought into FDR's administration with the founding of Social Security (SSA),holding for nearly 20 years the position of Director of the Bureau of Public Assistance, which included Old Age Assistance, Aid to Dependent Children, and Aid to the Blind. A fiery advocate on behalf of these programs, Hoey was a devout Catholic her entire life and Catholic social teaching informed her own commitment to social justice.
Program starts at 7 pm but do join us at 6:30 pm for cookies and socializing.

Join Ann Fields, founder of Peaceful Poses Kids Yoga, for an adult slow flow yoga class. This new class at Fredricksen will explore yoga poses, breathing techniques and ways to deal with stress and anxiety. This 45 minute class is open all levels and no experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle and yoga mat. Ann has her E-RYT-200, RCYT and is an adjunct instructor at HACC. Registration recommended.

Join this monthly group as we explore the best American and English short stories. Read and discuss two stories a month from 100 Years Of The Best American Short Stories by Lorrie Moore and Heidi Pitlor. Book must be purchased independently (approx. $30). Registration begins September 1. *This class meets monthly through May on the second Wednesday of most months.

Join us for our film discussions! Much like a book group, you will watch the film then if you like, join us for a moderated discussion. Watch the film at the library or watch it on your own. You must have watched the film to participate in the discussion. No registration for discussion.
