January: This Other Eden by Paul Harding (2023) 221 pages.  

Inspired by the true story of Malaga Island, an isolated community off the coast of Maine and how it became one of the first racially integrated towns in the Northeast. The story features an unforgettable cast of characters amidst a story of resistance and survival. Harding is a Pulitzer Prize winning author; this book was short-listed for the Booker Prize in 2023. Registration required.

The author’s powerful memoir chronicling his experiences of poverty and hardship in both cities. It offers a raw and eye-opening exploration of the realities faced by the working class in the early 20th century.

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway - Get ready for Thanksgiving with this memoir focuses on Hemingway’s years as a struggling expatriate journalist and writer in Paris during the 1920s. Many of the bars, cafes, and hotels mentioned in the book are still in existence in Paris.

Each month we will read about an American Girl character, then meet to discuss each girl. During our meetings we will get to know each other and our favorite American Girls. October: The Melancholy of Edgar Allan Poe - We will be reading a few of the Gothic master’s works including Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum and the poem The Raven.
