Ryan the Bug Man

We are so excited to welcome back, Ryan Bridge, “The Bug Man,” to Fredricksen Library! He will present an all-ages event focusing on how people are taught to dislike and thus, be afraid of bugs and insects. Breaking stereotypes and common fears about the most important creatures on our planet, he will teach everyone that “nothing in Nature WANTS to harm us.” Best of all, everyone will have a chance to pet and hold Live Bugs! Keeping insect education fun and exciting, audiences will experience the world of Entomology like never before! Recommended ages 0 - 18 years old. No registration required.

Summer Concert on the Lawn - Trinidad & Tobago Steel Drum Orchestra

concert7 pm to 8:30 pm - **MOVED INSIDE 
Join us on Fredricksen’s lawn all summer as we welcome talented performers for an evening of music and song. We will kick off summer with our annual concert with Trinidad & Tobago Baltimore Steel Orchestra as they bring a touch of the Caribbean to the library. This stunning group, named Baltimore's official steel drum band, are masters of the steel drum. Their vivacious tropical music rounds out a lively show for all ages!

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets! Our Teen Advisory Group will be selling popcorn and refreshments or feel free to bring your own. All concerts are free to the public. Concerts are held on the west lawn next to the lower parking lot. No registration necessary. Sponsored by McCormick Family Foundation.

Fun with Cupcakes

Don't miss our yummy Cupcake Decorating Competition. We'll supply the cupcakes and a pantry of decorating supplies. You'll have 60 minutes to plan and decorate your cupcakes and then we'll begin tasting and judging. This program is for teens ages 13-18. Register online.

Teens Create Contest

June 1 – July 29
Our Annual Teens Create Contest gives teens a chance to display their incredible creative skills to inspire our community. Submissions will be accepted in 5 categories:
1. Short Story (includes original and Fan Fiction short story)
2. Poetry
3. Painting and Illustration
4. Photography
5. Digitally Created Print Art
Submit your creative works July 15 - 29. Judging will take place August 1 - 16 and exhibited August 1 - August 30. Awards will be announced August 16. You may submit 1 entry in each category. Entry forms including category rules will be available for download June 1. Registration is required.
