Specially trained dogs from K-PETs will be at the library to listen to children read aloud. This program is helpful to children who may be shy or reluctant to read aloud and will encourage them to practice reading independently. For budding readers, ages 6 - 12. Registration required.

Volunteers from the Harrisburg/West Shore Chess Club will be on hand to assist young chess players and match up competitors. Join us and have fun! Participants are asked to bring a chess set if possible, but not required. No registration required. Recommended Ages, 5-13.

Join us for a back-to-school storytime and craft, perfect for young fans of Mo Willems’ Pigeon books!
No registration is necessary! Children can drop in during party hours from 4 to 7 pm. There will be balloon animals, snacks, and crafts. Best of all, kids will “shop” for prizes earned by logging their reading and activities on Beanstack. (For those who can't attend the party, "shopping" will continue at the library during regular hours through August 22.) The library parking lot may be full. The New Cumberland Olde Towne Association is hosting a local LEGO® expo at the New Cumberland Public Library Foundation Hall. The creations on display are from members of Extra Piece LEGO User Group (EP-LUG), a group of adult fans of LEGO from around the world. On August 1st, workshop events will be held at 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm outside under the tent. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The workshops will allow participants to build anything they want, and their creations may go home with them. Members of the public who wish to only browse the displays and not attend the workshops do not have to register for the event.
