Constitution Night with the Sons of the American Revolution

Constitution Night with the Sons of the American Revolution

Bring your kids to learn about the Constitution with the Sons of the American Revolution from 6-8p on Monday September 23 in the Community Room.

Activities include a read-aloud, BINGO, scavenger hunt, and even signing a copy of the Constitution with a quill pen. Kids can earn prizes, awards, and each will get a small gift. The Sons of the American Revolution is an apolitical organization that honors our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities, and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our country. The Washingtonburg Chapter of the Sons of American Revolution represents Cumberland and Perry Counties. If you would like more information about joining or think you have an ancestor from the Revolutionary War, see Dale Leppard, chapter genealogist. It’s an exciting time to join SAR as we are in the 250th anniversary cycle.

Archives Open House

Text: "New Cumberland Community Archives & Kenneth N. Ross Jr. Research Room Grand Opening" with images from New Cumberland's historyYou're invited to the grand opening of the New Cumberland Community Archives and Kenneth N. Ross Jr. Research Room.
Remarks and ribbon cutting will commence at 11:30 am.
We can't wait to share this meaningful gift to the community with you.

Originally called the "Local History Collection" and established in 1976 as part of a bicentennial project, the New Cumberland Community Archives contains unique photographs, records, maps, newspaper, and other records of the history of New Cumberland and the surrounding area. The collection represents the largest and most significant source of materials anywhere related to the history of the Borough of New Cumberland.

Through the generous bequest of Kenneth N. Ross Jr. and funds from a grant from Cumberland County, New Cumberland Public Library has been able to build a safe and secure home for the collection on the first floor of the Library, including climate-controlled storage space and a research room.

The collection contains items such as newspaper articles, books, maps, photographs, correspondence, scrapbooks, memorabilia, art work, and yearbooks. Access to the collection is granted by appointment or by request. An inventory of the collection (finding aid) is available in paper or online to assist researchers in locating relevant materials. A list of yearbooks is also available. For further information about the collection, making a donation, or access to the materials for research, please contact the Library at newcumberland@cumberlandcountylibraries.org.
