Philosophers’ Roundtable

This round table discussion will apply the Socratic Method to help delve into philosophical discussions and give you an opportunity to share your opinions in a neutral and respectful way without interruption. Each month the group will choose a philosophical issue and everyone attending will have the opportunity to learn and discuss with others in an open and respectful environment. What a great way to expand your mind and reach further with your thoughts! Ages 18 +. The group typically meets the second Monday of each month.

Each meeting will have a genealogical theme which we will discuss before we try out the resources related to the theme. Join gerontologist, Glen Dunbar, in this informative workshop helping you to prepare for care options, advanced health care directives, and why it is smart to make plans for serious illness even if you intend to live forever. The presenter has graduate degrees from the Center for Aging Studies at the University of North Texas and the School of end-of-Life Studies at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Before retiring, he was a career policy specialist for state and federal entities devoted to aging issues. No registration required.

Led by Yasmin Haut and musician friends, the Dances explore sacred phrases for many of the world’s great spiritual traditions combined with simple folk-dance movement. Join with fellow book lovers as we take a look at works from a period in a language or culture's history that was particularly creative and productive. You do not have to read the selection before the meeting date. 

September: An American Marriage by Tayari Jones (A featured selection from the NYT 100 Best Books of the 21st Century) Newlyweds Celestial and Roy, the living embodiment of the New South, are settling into the routine of their life together when Roy is sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. An insightful look into the lives of people who are bound and separated by forces beyond their control. There are several copies of this book within the library system.
