Dawn Marron has organized experienced local coupon clippers to share their tips and techniques to cut spending and enjoy shopping. The New Cumberland Public Library will host Couponing for Extreme Savings on the third Saturdays of the month in the Meeting Room of the library building. In September, guest speaker Betty Enck will discuss travel discounts, focusing on cruises and air travel. Workshops are free and open to the public. Feel free to bring coupons to trade and share.

Ruth’s Mystery Discussion Group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 10:15 AM in the Library’s 2nd Floor Meeting Room. On Thursday, December 4, the group will discuss Christmas mysteries.

New members are encouraged to attend and enjoy sharing their love of the mystery genre. A reading list is available at the mystery meetings. A binder containing authors and book titles that have been read by the group members, as well as a table display of information about the group, is arranged in the mystery section of the library’s South Wing.

Embroidery Workshop

Embroidery encompasses a broad array of materials and techniques that help to express creativity, foster cultural connections, and expand community.  The New Cumberland Public Library is pleased to offer a workshop hosted by the Susquehanna Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America.  The Susquehanna Chapter is committed to sharing their love of needle art and teaching everyone the joys of embroidery.  They look forward to teaching YOU how to express ideas through embroidery. 

Participants will receive a demonstration and a kit to practice on.  If you want to bring your own supplies, you will need to bring a hoop, 10 x 10 inch piece of muslin fabric, scissors, and DMC cotton floss.  All skill levels are welcome.  Registration is required for this FREE workshop.

In this six-session class, students will explore the iPhone’s settings, learn some tips and tricks for Contacts and text Messages, and become more efficient in the Mail and Safari apps. Then you’ll learn how to take better pictures with the camera, explore the many features of the Photos app, and even learn some great photo editing tips and tricks.  iOS 18 is full of new features, so even experienced users can benefit from the class.  Join James Gates, an experienced educator and consultant, as he guides users through the iPhone.

Introduction to Digital Photography

Do you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera and aren't sure how to use it? Are you still taking photos using only the AUTOMATIC mode? If you answered yes, then this is the perfect class for you! Each class, taught by instructor & photographer, Michael Yatsko, will begin with an exploration of a new topic followed by some hands on application of the technique or idea. Weekly assignments will also be given to reinforce what has been learned in class. During this class you will learn about the history of photography and cameras, the science behind how a DSLR camera works, the exposure triangle - aperture, shutter speed and ISO, many different composition techniques, lenses, and much, much more. In order to participate you need to have a DSLR or mirrorless camera. $150 fee covers all six classes. Ages 13+; Seating is very limited.
