Star Wars: The Strategic Defense Initiative
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM in the Community Room
Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative, commonly known as "Star Wars" has been misrepresented in U.S. history textbooks. Six months after Reagan left office, the Department of Defense quietly launched a particle accelerator to test how a neutral particle beam would function in space. The tests were a success and the US inaugurated its use of particle beams in space— creating a real-life prototype of future "death rays" and "ray guns" once found only in Hollywood B-movies and in classified reports on unidentified flying objects.
