Create your own toys in minutes with this Grab & Go STEAM kit! Strawbees is a line of award-winning construction toys that aim to stimulate kids’ imaginations and make STEM learning fun. The innovative connectors inspire kids to build, play, and tell stories with straws and cardboard.

Use this STEAM kit to create up to 16 projects, including a butterfly, puppy, dinosaur head, bridge, catapult, and more! This project is for kids ages 8-12 only, please. Registration is required and limited.

Hydraulic Claw
For ages 8-12

Design and build a hydraulic claw that works just like the games in an arcade! Experiment with hydraulics and engineering with this STEAM kit. Decide between an accordion, chopsticks, or pincer style claw, assemble; then test.

Move the upper cylinder and watch your claw open and close below. We’ll provide a comprehensive guide to get you started, but the final claw design is up to you. Can you design a claw to pick up specific objects (worms, marshmallows, balls)? This project is for kids ages 8-12 only, please. Registration is required and limited.

Join the Library as Talewise takes us on a wild adventure about two kids who visit the city zoo and discover all sorts of incredible animals, including a horse who knows in its heart that it’s truly a unicorn. The animals join forces to stand up to the tyrannical Zoo Owner — but do they have what it takes to leave their cages forever?

The fun animated story segues into fascinating science concept segments about life sciences and animals, so you won’t only be entertained — you'll learn something, too! Space is limited and registration is required. Registrants will be emailed a Zoom link, password, and further instructions. To participate, you'll need a computer or mobile device with a microphone and optional camera.

Stop in the children’s room and pick up a kit with crafts and activities all about magical tails & tales!

Each kit will include the materials and instructions you need for several crafts and activities related to the theme, as well as items chosen specifically to help children develop age appropriate literacy skills such as letter sounds, number recognition, fine motor skills, and more.

Makedo!
For ages 8-11
Makedo is a simple to use, open-ended system of tools used to build imaginative and useful creations from upcycled (repurposed) everyday cardboard. You’ll receive a kit, starter cardboard, and instructions to create your very own creature with tails & tales, as well as ideas for other projects. The tools are yours to keep and can be reused for more making! Registration is required and limited.

Bristlebots
For ages 8-11
Create your own zippy bot in minutes with this Grab & Go STEAM kit!
Bristlebots are a fun way to learn about basic engineering, motor, circuits, and principles of balance. Creating a bot is simple, just attach the parts to the tooth brush head and watch them go. You can experiment and change the way they move and behave by adjusting the balance and pipe cleaners. Registration is required and limited.

For families with children ages 3+
Use this link to watch Kitty Jones perform her one-woman show “Mother Nature.” The program combines improvisation, dance, and music where audience members are cast right into the show!

Kids can download this prop kit and have the items ready to complement the performance.
