The Harrisburg branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is celebrating its 100 year anniversary and we are pleased to be a part of it! Together, we are bringing you Amy Ensley, Director of the Hankey Center at Wilson College to help us celebrate Women's History Month. Ensley will discuss the movement toward higher education for women which paralleled the broad political, economic and social movements in the United States during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Generational change was reflected in shifting roles, expectations, and opportunities. Throughout the movement, a level of ambivalence existed in the public and often, in the women themselves.

Amy Ensley is Wilson College’s Director of the Hankey Center for the History of Women’s Education. Her research interests include women’s history in the United States during the post-Civil War era through the Women’s Rights Movement of the 1970s. Her focus includes women’s education, roles in the workforce, wartime, religion, and social activism, and work/life balance. She uses Digital Humanities techniques to analyze and communicate historical information from the college archives and works to place the history of the college in the broader context of U.S. history. Ensley has a B.S. in Applied Statistics from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.S. in Organizational Development from Shippensburg University.

Established in 1957, the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum preserves and provides access to President Truman’s historical materials. The Truman Library is one of fourteen Presidential Libraries operated by the Federal government. It’s all the way out in Missouri, but now you can experience it virtually! Join Mr. Sam Rushay, supervising archivist at the Truman Library as he introduces you to the library’s history and leads you through a virtual tour, followed by a Q&A session.
