Learning to Attract, Identify, and Appreciate the Birds Around Us 

Monday, February 17; 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room 

Learn the essential techniques of bird identification and ways to attract a variety of birds to your yard.  Take a look at some of our common backyard birds and learn about some interesting birds often seen right here in Camp Hill.  The program will include a look at a few of the many excellent apps available to jump start your birding skills and deepen your appreciation of birds. 

Facilitator Ann Fruth has had a life-long interest in birds studying them in books, on-line, and in the field for 30 years.  Her studies have taken her across the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, to Canada, through many parts of Africa, to Antarctica, the Galapagos, and South and Central America.

Join in this gathering of embroidery enthusiasts for an afternoon of working on your own project, sipping some tea (tea is provided, bring your own mug!) and chatting with others. Learn some needlework tips, tricks and trends in the craft of embroidery. Don’t have a current project? Just come and be inspired to start one!

We will learn to effectively use the features and functions of an Android smartphone or tablet, covering basics like navigating the interface, utilizing core apps, managing settings, and troubleshooting common issues. Aimed at new users or those unfamiliar with the Android operating system.  Each session will be focused on the particular needs of attendees.  Please bring your Android device. Black holes are a staple of science fiction movies and TV shows. And occasionally they even make headline news. But what exactly are black holes? How do they work? How do they form? How do astronomers know they exist? What would happen if you fell into a black hole? And are we in any danger of a black hole roaming through our solar system and gobbling up Earth? Join science journalist Robert Naeye, a former NASA employee and editor in chief of Sky & Telescope magazine, as he explains in clear language the fascinating science of black holes. 

Tuesday, February 11; 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room 

Join local author Michael H. Zang for an overview of his recently published WWII biography, Guest of Adolf: The War of SSG Ernest V. Focht, 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion.  Focht was a long time Central Pennsylvania resident until his passing in 2003.  Captured in North Africa in February 1943, Focht spent 27 months as a prisoner of war. Using wartime diaries and letters home, this book offers an insight into the 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and the experiences of prisoners of war. Michale Zang is a retired Elementary School Principal and U.S. Army Colonel.
